â–º ROP is one of the leading causes of severe visual
impairment in childhood

3. Risk factors
â–º Prematurity and Low birth weight (LBW) are the most
important risk factors for the development of ROP
â–º Injudicious use of oxygen - also an important risk factor
â–º Repeated blood transfusions and sepsis are other risk factors
â–º Any sick LBW infant has higher chance of developing ROP
